Since season 2010/2011 this route is made by Naviera Puelche. The trip is subdivided in two legs: from Hornopirén to Leptepú with the boat Mailén and, after driving 10 kilometers through a dirt road, from Fiordo Largo to Caleta Gonzalo with the ferry Tehuelche. There is one daily service all year round. The departures of both boats are coordinated, with departures at 10:30 from Hornopirén and at 14:00 from Caleta Gonzalo. In summer, there are two daily serveces.

The boats carry vehicles and passengers. Usually there is availability for passengers until close to the departure time. But if you are travelling by car, you must make a reservation in advance, especially in summer. Reservations must be made directly through the office of Naviera Austral in Puerto Montt.
