MONTT -> PUERTO CHACABUCO

It
is the fastest way to get from Puerto Montt to the Aysén
Region (save by flying there). Puerto Chacabuco is one hour
away from Coyhaique, the region's capital, and it is also
the start point for the touristic excursions towards the
Laguna San Rafael, which is only a few hours of navigation
to the south away. |

Leaving
Puerto Montt, the navigation continues through the interior
sea of the Chiloé archipelago, with calm waters protected
by the Isla Grande. With good visibility it is possible to
see a chain of high summits and volcanoes in the continent.
Entering the Corcovado gulf, which separates the archipelagos
of Chiloé and Guaitecas, the sea gets tougher for some
hours until reaching the Moraleda channel: again an area protected
from the winds and waves. In the second half of the journey,
the boat sails through fjords and islands of incomparable
beauty, until arriving to Puerto Chacabuco after a 22-hour-journey. |

April 2011 Navimag sold its ferry Puerto Edén that
used to work this route. Since then, the service is provided
by the ferry Amadeo that is mainly built
for cargo and has very few cabins for passengers in
only one category, with 4 or 6 beds. |

The
prices are per person. If you don't mind sharing with other
passengers, it is possible to buy one or more berths in
a cabin at the quadruple rate. If you wish a cabin exclusively,
it applies the rate for single person when traveling alone,
double for two people, and triple for three.
There are cabins with 4 and some with 6 beds.
From
April to August
2013, this service will be done by the
ferry Evangelistas, which has cabins in different categories.
The price includes breakfast. Other meals can be bought
at the cafeteria on board.
