In
April 2011 Navimag sold its ferry Puerto Edén
that used to make this popular trip. Between July and
September, there were some departures with the ferry
Evangelistas, but there are no
trips scheduled to Laguna San Rafael with the ferry
until May 2012.
During the summer season (November to March) the trip
to Laguna San Rafael is only made by the modern cruiser
Mare Australis, leaving from Castro, in the
Island of Chiloé. To see this option >

It
is one of the best options to visit the glacier San Rafael
for those traveling on a smaller budget. The ferry Evangelistas
is comfortable, but not luxury, and allows you to make this
beautiful touristic excursion to a region which can only
be reached by sea.
The
passengers who wish to continue their trip to the south
or the Carretera Austral, can disembark at Puerto Chacabuco
after visiting the Laguna San Rafael. Prices for this option:

| Itinerary |
Sailing
from Puerto Montt, the boat navigates through the interior
sea of the Chiloé archipelago, with calm waters protected
by the Isla Grande. There is a stop at Puerto Chacabuco to
unload trucks and cargo. After this point, the journey becomes
completely touristic towards the Laguna San Rafael, in order
to witness the huge icebergs that break into the sea. Once
in front of the glacier, the passengers get into smaller boats
to have a closer look to this wonderful nature spectacle,
and drink whisky with millenary ice. After the visit, the
boat sails back to Puerto Chacabuco, where trucks and cargo
get embarked, and then begins the trip back to Puerto Montt
following the same route taken before.

that transports vehicles, cargo and passengers. It has cabins
of different categories, and berths in a dormitory. The ship

prices are per person. If you don't mind sharing with other
passengers, it is possible to buy one or more berths in a
cabin at the quadruple rate. If you wish a cabin exclusively,
it applies the rate for single person when traveling alone,
double for two people, and triple for three.
The
price includes full board, but not the alcoholic drinks.
